What is a decision foundation?
A decision foundation is a person’s framework for their decisions, set down in writing. It is built by decision architects.
- What a decision foundation is
A person’s framework for their decisions. A decision foundation contains the benchmark that a person has deliberately established for themselves, and consists of four parts:
The current state: where a person stands today
What is essential to them
The desired state: where they want to go
The conditions that must be met to get there
- Who builds it
Trained decision architects. Architecture is the deliberate designing, shaping and constructing. As a decision architect I design and arrange, sort out, strike, derive and construct, on the basis of what you tell me about your current situation and your goal. From this I build the framework for you.
- Why it is needed
When a lot depends on a question, more information rarely helps. There are too many options, too many convincing arguments and too many people who advise something from their own perspective. What is missing is a reference point against which everything can be measured.
- What it is for
For people who carry responsibility, for example entrepreneurs, solopreneurs and executives, and for decisions on which a great deal depends: a new role, a new beginning, a change of chapter, an exit, a relationship.
- What you get from it
You know what you measure every option by
Your decisions hold after weeks, months and years
You see what stands in your way and where the biggest lever lies
You regain orientation and energy
You hold a document you can refer to whenever a decision comes up
- How it begins
A person comes with a question. First we look at two things:
Everything they bring with them, that is, what they share about themselves
Whether their question is the real question
Usually a deeper question lies behind the one a person comes with. We look for the core question. With it, and with the knowledge of where a person wants to go, the desired state can be designed.
- Who decides
You do. I design and show you the draft. You decide what holds for you and what does not, and then it is adjusted. I build, review, plan and design; I do not make the final decisions. The relationship is like that between an architect and her client: development continues until the basic framework stands.
- What stands in the way
We look at what in the present does not hold or does not work. That part is struck out, so that you can reach your goal, your wish or your vision. The focus is always on what currently stands in your way and where the biggest lever lies. At the end stands a fully built decision foundation with which you carry on and keep working yourself.
- What sets the foundation apart from advice
Advice answers a question from someone else’s point of view. The decision foundation comes from you. A decision foundation is the benchmark against which you test every answer, including the next one. The answer stays yours.
